Re:H.pylori

Monday, September 28th, 2009

I am presently a student applying to the College of Pharmacy at
the University of Florida(for the fall of 1994).  I heard a new
bacteria called H. pylori.  Can someone send me further information
on this bacterium and how it is commonly (or uncommonly treated).
Thank you.

Prozac on NBC Nightly News

Monday, September 28th, 2009

Anyone see the segment on Prozac on Tom Brokaw’s broadcast Monday?
Is Prozac the miracle drug of choice for the future?  St Louis local
stations are also running stories on same.  Is this a ratings month
story making the rounds for sweeps week?

Ref needed for pharm. basis of herbal efficacy

Monday, September 28th, 2009

As herbalism and "self" healing has becoming enormously popular, the
number of books on the subject has also increased at what seems an
exponential rate.

Many of the books I’ve encountered merely map the "condition" to the
"herb(s)" that should be used.

Does anyone know of a reference that identifies what the active
substances or alkaloids are for commonly used herbs?

For instance, if one is taking an SSRI for depression, s/he would be
well advised to stay away from any teas and/or herbs that contain
natural MAOIs.

generics

Monday, September 28th, 2009

In connection with this topic, I did notice a difference between Motrin
800 and generic ibuprofen.  I normally take 1-2 800′s per day, and when
I tried the generic I felt spacey, even when I split the dose to 400
each morning and evening.  Decided it was affecting my driving, etc
and went back to Motrin 800′s.  Is there something different about 800′s?

In article 3…@encore.com, idequ…@encore.com (Ivan Dequesada) writes:

Slap the panicing person square in the face, it always works.

I’ve seen it on TV.

Trust me.

AZITHROMYCIN: should I be concerned?

Monday, September 28th, 2009

What do you think of AZITHROMYCIN (alias Zithromax or the Z-Pak(tm))?

From what I understand, it remains inside the white blood cells, thereby
assisting their attacks against bacteria.  (It is an anti-biotic.)  A
5 day regimin continues fighting bacteria for an additional 9 days, while
the AZITHROMYCIN continues seeping out of the white blood cells.

Are there any long term studies of the effects of Azithromycin on the
body’s immune system?  In other words, do the white blood cells
"like" having Azithromycin inside?  Does Azithromycin interract with
any other chemicals or systems within the white blood cell?

How well studied is Azithromycin?  How long has it been in use?

Thanks,
