Lithium Dependency – HELP !!

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

My significant other has been experiencing SERIOUS problems recently, as
she was recently prescribed Lithium. We both feel she is either allergic
to the stuff or is dosing at a toxic level. She has the classic toxic
reactions: projectile vomiting, shakes, no sleep ( or in 20 min.
increments ), muscle ache and strain, weeping, anger, etc. This is in a
person who was FINE the day before she started taking this stuff. She has
always been a very strong person, and she NEVER complains or has reactions
for sympathy. She was previously on Zoloft and that was good, but the Dr.
she was seeing thought Lithium would be the cure-all. She was diagnosed
with "bipolar disease".

She is beginning to lose her mind….probably from lack of sleep. I feel
she needs to stop taking the Lithium. It appears she is allergic to it.
When she first reported these types of symptoms, she was taking 1350 mg
per day, then they upped her to 1800 mg !! Wow !! And she started to
become VERY SICK ! Now, they upped it to 2250 mg and she went ballistic !!
NO sleep, awful vomiting, starting to feel like she can’t cope, can’t deal
with her child, and starting to lose touch with reality. This is being
ignored by the Dr., who I PLEADED with to see her and/or stop/decrease the
dose, but he won’t speak to me regarding her case, and he won’t return her
calls, and it’s SO CRAZY that we are going to take her off this junk
TODAY. Now, for the question (s):

1) Can she stop " cold turkey " ? She’s been taking it for 15 days at
various levels. She’s been at 2250 for 4 days, but she didn’t take it last
night at all, and she doesn’t want to take it today.

2) Do we " ween " her off ? And how ?

3) Looking recommendations for physicians expert in this type of problem "
bipolar disease " in Connecticut, near Fairfield County.

Please Help, as my honey cannot be on this stuff anymore !! And I want the
person that I knew and loved 2 weeks ago to return to her personality. If
this is the answer for bipolar disease, she’d rather live with the
symptoms.

Thank You in advance,

Sean Goulart

DIAPID

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

There used to be a nasal inhalant called DIAPID that was essentially a
synthetic version of vasopressin.  It had shown some ability in increasing the
learning and memory potential of persons taking it.  Is it still available?
Does anyone have any experience with it?
