Imitrex (sumatriptan) Woes

Saturday, January 30th, 2010

I take Imitrex for my Migraines and it has worked wonders
for me (my headache disappears within 45 minutes of injection).
I have one big problem, however, in that the Imitrex causes
severe nausea for me. The nausea lasts for about an hour after
I inject the drug. My neurologist has prescribed a host of
antiemetic drugs for me to take to counteract this effect
(ie: Phenergan (promethazine), Compazine, Vistaril), but
they all work only minimally and cause extreme sedation for
the better part of the day. Because of this effect, I have
had to just inject the Imitrex without taking the antiemetic
and just try to cope with the ill feeling it causes. Basically,
what this means is that for an hour or so after injection, I
can’t work, I can only sit very still and try not to throw up.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what can be done to
minimize the nausea caused by the Imitrex? Any suggestions
on antiemetic drugs that don’t cause such lethargy and sedation
for so long? The stuff I’ve taken thus far has made me feel
very heavy, slow, and dulled, both physically and mentally – making
it nearly impossible to work very efficiently.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks!
Becky

Risks and side effects of benzodiazepines

Saturday, January 30th, 2010

I am interested in risks and side effects associated with
benzodiazepines. (e.g Valium, Serepax, Halcion, Ativan etc.)
These drugs seem to be much more dangerous than previously assumed
(1,2,3,4) and I am interested in corresponding with people who can
describe their personal problems with these substances. I would be glad
to
correspond on an anonymous basis. One of my future plans
is to contribute to the compiling of an experience-based archive
of narrative reports on problems with benzos, the identities
of the contributors beeing kept a secret.

Old Remington's for sale?

Saturday, January 30th, 2010

I’m a student at UGA and I’m wondering if someone out there would
like to get rid of an old "weight" sitting around.  I’d prefer a 17th ed. or
later.  I get tired of trying to locate the new one or go to the 4th floor
in the library to browse the 1975 ed.  I’d send enough to cover the shipping
and consider paying whatever else you think it’s worth.

Old Reminton's for sale?

Saturday, January 30th, 2010

If anyone has an older Remington’s (17th ed. +) that performs the
duty of being a workout weight, let me know.  I get tired of trying to find
the newest one or trudging up to the 4th floor in the library for a 1975
version.  I’d be willing to pay shipping and will consider what you think it’
s worth to you.

Thanks, Dr. Les, for illustrating my point that if you don’t have a reasonably
good command of the language, you don’t have any credibility.

Simple test for saliva cortisol

Saturday, January 30th, 2010

I’m interested in finding a simple saliva cortisol test.
Does anyone know of a source for a field test kit for cortisol levels.
Ideally, the test I need should be readable immediately after taking the
saliva sample.

High Cholesterol levels/Medication induced?

Saturday, January 30th, 2010

Hello,

is anything known about either SSRIs or tricyclics influencing cholesterol-
levels? Is it possible that some of them might actually increase LDL-levels?
What medication-types besides – not particularily aimed at this – do de-
or in-crease cholesterol and triglycerid levels?
(The eventuallity of problems-with-measurement also considered…)
Thank you for any ideas,

Tam’as
