Looking for Wholesale Drug software

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

I am trying to help a friend who owns a wholesale
drug/HBA company in locating software that other companies
use for billing, invoicing, etc.

The biggest hurdle we have found with trying to use
general accounting software is the invoice forms do not allow
for enough columns to be used for NDC-UPC codes and lot#’s.

I would appreciate any information you could supply with regards
to:
 * off-the-shelf general accounting software you have been able to
use and correctly modify,

 * off-the-shelf general accounting software that you paid the
company to modify to your needs

 * companies that custom wrote your software

 * an FTP site for public domain software of this type

I have found nothing in the WWW sites listed in this newsgroup.

Thanks.

Re: Serzone

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

The "Pink Sheet" indicated on January 9, 1995 that Serzone will be
introduced "within a few weeks".  I have communication from BMSq Prof
Services (609 897-2000) about Serzone dated Jan. 27th that does not
cite an anticipated introduction date.  You may want to speak with
them directly.

IONOTOPHORESIS

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

There was much discussion at my physiotherapy clinic today concerning the
preparation of 10% hydrocortisone coupling agent to be used with ultrasound.
Although this is a frequently requested treatment for musculo-skeletal
injuries, I never gave much thought to its preparation. I felt that US gel
could be combined with the cortisone powder, but was advised that this was not
how it should be done. Does it matter what the coupling agent is?    I would
really appreciate feedback. Many thanks.

Ca++ Channel Blockers for Hemiplegia?

Friday, February 26th, 2010

A 2 year old patient in a retail setting is taking Sibelium (TM)
capsules (flunarizine HCl – Janssen Pharmaceutica) for "alternating
hemiplegia of childhood".  According to the package insert, this is a
Calcium Channel Blocker, and is officialy indicated for prophylaxis of
classic and common migraine.
The drug is not available in the U.S., and creates a hardship for the
family to obtain the medication from Mexico or elsewhere.
Is anyone aware of other Calcium Channel Blockers that are marketed
in the U.S. that might be effective in this case?  And if so, any further
details on it’s use and effectiveness would be appreciated.
     Sincerely,
          Steve Newton, R.Ph.

Summary of Miles Mixture Preps…

Friday, February 26th, 2010

"  I have never heard if the mixture being called a "Miles
MIxture".  It is nice to know that it has a name.  We have always called
it "magic mouthwash". Our formula contains tetracycline 500mg,
hydrocortisone 60mg (crushed tablets), Nilstat susp 5ml, qs with water to
120ml.  Some of our radiation/onocologist also request 1 part Maalox:1
part Benadryl elixir: 1 part viscous lidocaine for their patients.  I
have seen no published studies on any of these mixtures.

C. Boyes R. Ph."

and from Jennifer Mulford, Pharm Intern

jmulf…@music.ferris.edu :

"While I have no published data on the mixture I am sending to you,
it has been used for some years in the Flint area of Michigan.  The mix
seems to be just a change of the one you have, but perhaps it would
taste better.  It it used for any unidentified sores or blisters in the mouth.

Ann Arbor Mouthwash
———————————

Kaopectate                         60cc
Mycostatin Susp                60cc
Tetracycline Susp.             60cc
Diphenhydramine El.        120cc or qs to 300cc

The directions are swish in mouth for 1 minute and then either spit
or swallow.

This may not be what you are looking for, but perhaps someone has
heard of this mixture in use.  Hope this helps, and at least no one has
complained of the taste of this mixture to us. "

Finally, a Dale Grothe at the NIH gave me a name and phone number
at the NIH of a Dr. Jim Minor, but I’ve not received a callback from either
of my calls yet.  That is what I was waiting for before writing this.

Well I’m not any closer to what I was looking for with the Miles Mixture yet,
but it is interesting to see the similarities among these oral preparations.
Mrs. Boyes, here’s the top 3 we use:

Miles Mixture #1
———————–

Hydrocortisone Phosphate inj.  100mg/2cc            20mg(0.4cc)
Nystatin susp   100,000u/ml                                      20cc
Tetracycline Susp.  125/5cc                                        40cc
Distilled Water
qs 120cc

Miles Mixture #2   (also called Hospice Mouthwash, and formerly known as Dr.
Hall’s Mouthwash)
——————————————————————————-
———————————————————

Hydrocortisone Phosphate inj.  100mg/2cc              20mg(0.4cc)
Nystatin susp.   100,000u/ml                                        20cc
Tetracycline Susp. 125/5cc                                           20cc
Diphenhydramine Elixir                                                 qs
240cc

AND our Magic Mouthwash
————————————–

Nystatin Susp  100,000u/ml                            100cc
Benadryl Inj.  50mg/cc                                       4.25cc
Viscous Xylocaine                                              25cc
Cherry Syrup                                                        15cc
Distilled Water                                                     qs 240cc

All 3 get a 30 day expiration date.  The 2 Miles Mixtures also get a shake
well.  Magic Mouthwash gets a shake gently.

Here’s to Dr. Jim Minor at the NIH and his being able to point out where these
preparations have been
observed for their clinical effects.

Chronic use of Sudafed

Friday, February 26th, 2010

Does anyone know of any ill effects from chronic use of the decongestant
drug "Sudafed" (pseudoephedrine HCL)?  By chronic, I mean daily use for
a period of years.

Anecdotal information or journal citations would be appreciated.

Thanks.
