I’ve searched through the available literature (Medline), the PDR, the
package inserts and contacted the manufacturers, but can find no
significant data about the long term effects of chlortrimeton use.
I suspect that there are many people who have chronic allergies and have
found it necessary to take chlortrimeton on a daily basis for years. I’m
interested in hearing about experiences, both negative and positive.

I work for Schering-Plough, who make Chlor-Trimeton. I should emphasize
immediately that I’m just one of their chemists, and I’m *not* speaking
for the company. The product has been around so long that I would think
that any long-term effects would have had ample time to show up in the
literature. As far as I know, the stuff is safe over long periods. Kind of
sedating, like others of its class, but safe.
