I am an adult (age 29) and began taking Ritalin approximately 5 weeks
ago for Attention-Deficit Disorder, which does run in my family.
I have noticed that the effects seem to be significantly diminished, and
was wondering whether anyobne had any experience with using generics
vs. Ceba. I took 5 mg Ceba tablets initially, 30 mg per day, and noticed
that along with the physiological side effects, not only did I focus well
but I felt dramatically calmer.
I switched to generic after a follow-up with my doctor; although the effects
initially were the same, over the last 2-3 weeks I seem to feel almost none
of the calming, and even my focus is not as strong. I don’t have the name
of the manufacturer; they are 10 mg off-white biconvex tablets, marked "MD"
on one side and "530" perpendicular to score-marks on the other side.
Of course there are indications that in some adults, at least, tolerances
may develop, including cross-tolerances to other CNS stimulants. I also
have been under stress from the end of the semester at school and have
been sleeping less (NOT because of the methylphenidate), so that probably
factors in as well. I ahve tried crushing the tablets thoroughly before I
take them, which seems to help.
I am interested in hearing what people know about the use of generic Ritalin,
and its effects, at some of the general quality issues involved in manufacture
and effect of generic drugs. I’m also trying to develop some idea of how it is
metabolized by the body, theorized mechanisms of tolerance development, and
whether cross-tolerancing probably does occur with other CNS stimulants. I
have a fairly strong analytic background (I have a degree in physics) so if
anyone can even point me to decent sources of information about these topics
it would be very helpful.
