I take Imitrex for my Migraines and it has worked wonders
for me (my headache disappears within 45 minutes of injection).
I have one big problem, however, in that the Imitrex causes
severe nausea for me. The nausea lasts for about an hour after
I inject the drug. My neurologist has prescribed a host of
antiemetic drugs for me to take to counteract this effect
(ie: Phenergan (promethazine), Compazine, Vistaril), but
they all work only minimally and cause extreme sedation for
the better part of the day. Because of this effect, I have
had to just inject the Imitrex without taking the antiemetic
and just try to cope with the ill feeling it causes. Basically,
what this means is that for an hour or so after injection, I
can’t work, I can only sit very still and try not to throw up.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what can be done to
minimize the nausea caused by the Imitrex? Any suggestions
on antiemetic drugs that don’t cause such lethargy and sedation
for so long? The stuff I’ve taken thus far has made me feel
very heavy, slow, and dulled, both physically and mentally – making
it nearly impossible to work very efficiently.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Thanks!
Becky
