I’m looking for inofrmation about the antidepressant moclebemide
(sp?). It is a new MAOI inhibitor developed in Switzerland. I’d
appreciate pointers to journal articles or studies as well as
anecdotal reports and any other information.
Thanks.

I’m on moclobemid(e) right now. A daily dose of 300 mg, 150 in the morning
and 150 on the afternoon. My doctor said it would make me more active – it
usally do – but I only felt tiredness. I was at maxdose (in sweden it’s
600 mg) for 2 weeks but had to drop because uncontrolable anger (my usual
problem with depressions) but now it’s better. The only side-effect that I
experianced was that I was ill the FIRST day but after that no probs.
I don’t know but I thinks thats my sleep have been effected not that I can’t
sleep but sometimes I wake up in the night like after a nightmare but I don’t
remember anything.
Yes one more thing is that I have a real hell eating. If I eat two times a day
then it’s victory.
How it’s works: I know that it inhibits a enzyme called MAO that oxidase
serotonine, norepinephrine and dopamine so the concentration of all these
increase.
M. doesn’t interact with alcohole and doesn’t have the cheese-effect. M.
DOES interact with cimetidin(e) which often medicine for gastric ulcer
contains.
Well that’s what I got. If you get anything more intresting then I would
like to have it forwarded to me.

Stella:
There is lots of literature available on moclobemide. Following
are some review references that can also lead you to additional literature:
1) Fitton A, et al. Moclobemide – A Review of its Pharmacological
Properties and Therapeutic Use in Depressive Illness. DRUGS 43:4, 1992.
2) Freeman H: Moclobemide – Drug Profile. THE LANCET
342:8886/8887, 1528-1532, 1993.
3) Proceedings of a Symposium on MAO Inhibitor Antidepressants.
Clinical Neuropharmacology 16(Supplement 2):R5-S88, 1993.
Hope this helps.
