I would like to know what, if any, long-term side-effects exist from taking
anti-inflamatories such as naproxen. I have a herniated disc at
C6-C7 in my neck that is pinching a nerve (seen on MRI) and the ONLY way to
remain pain free (and keep my job!) at this time is a twice-daily dose of 500mg
naproxen (with meals) along with once-daily home cervical traction. If I miss
so much as a single day or two, the acute symptoms return rapidly.
I have been cleared for surgery at my option but I have decided to
postpone it to give the traction more time to work. However, it has been almost
two years of this, and if I forego the surgery, I will most probably be taking
naproxen for the rest of my life. I DON’T LIKE THIS. I have NEVER been on
ANY medication TFN. My fear is that there ARE long-term side-effects of SOME
kind from taking this stuff, but they are latent–appearing MANY years later.
I am in otherwise excellent health and don’t want to ruin a good thing.
Any professional advice on this matter is greatly appeciated!
