If you want to reach Helix, you might try calling with a standard Mac
communication program. Their BBS interface is Wild Cat, I do believe. I
called their the other day with Procomm for DOS, and got in, no problem.

                                Vic Walker R.Ph.
I
haven't
yet used Helix, but they have announced they will no longer support
the
Mac, and suggest that Mac users get a power PC w/SoftWindows and use
a Windows terminal program.
Essentially, if you use a Mac (as do I), you'd better look in a
hurry.
Each has a different
focus and purpose. Glaxo provides a software kit to access Helix via
Compuserve, Merck sponsors Pharmnet via ASHP thru Compuserve also and FIX is
fee based system unless you have access through a national puchasing group aka
AmHs : it is also underwritten by Amgen,Upjohn, Roche , Roerig and others. I
will post the numbers a latter time . They all are excellent.
Do you recommend it?
>Does anybody have information concerning PharmNet? What is it and how can one
>access it? What about the Formulary Information Exchange? I read about all thsese online
>services in American Pharmacy but it did not specify any more details.
>Thanks.
>bge0
>thttthwhilet
>Glaxoo??

Never seen Helix.... But I have used both of the later services.

PharmNet is the ASHP electronic bulletin board service (BBS). All ASHP members
can log on and use the numerous services. News updates, message bases and
files of interest top the list of services. You can gain access a TELNET line
(not internet telnet) in your local dialing area.

The FIX (Formulary Information Exchange) run a BBS in conjunction with their
subscription based information service. It is well worth the money (about
$350 a year). All subscribers get access to the BBS via a 1-800 number. This
service is one of the best time saves out there. They send out monthly
new drug monographs, DUE criteria and general reviews. I almost never agree
with everything as presented but it provides a great start on these lab
intensive projects. They include all of this in disk as well. The BBS is the
icing. Practitioners can swap ideas, much as we do here, but the number of
msg bases is stagering. .....

Need any more specifics.. email me.
-----------------------------------------------
EASmith esmith%utmck_p...@wpgate.utk.edu
