                        Technology Transfer Symposium

                              Scope

        A technology transfer symposium, designed to provide members of the
armament and ammunition business community, small business and academia the
opportunity to understand Picatinny’s Technology Transfer program, will be
held May 19 at the Skylands, Route 10, Randolph, N.J. and at Picatinny
Arsenal on May 20.  The symposium will be hosted by the Picatinny Chapter of
the American Defense Preparedness Association and presented by the U.S.
Army’s Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center.
        Speakers from ARDEC, Office of Secretary of Defense, Advanced Research
Projects Agency, National Institute for Standards and Technology, Federal
Laboratories Consortium and New Jersey Science and Technology Commission
will present papers at various workshops throughout the first day.  The
presenters will describe the role of their organizations and explain
participation in their programs.  The symposium will continue on May 20 with
a series of workshops held at various locations at Picatinny Arsenal to
include:  Health Sciences, Material Sciences, Packaging, Environmental
Services, Test Facilities/Instrumentation and Tech Transfer Tools.
        Attendees will be acquainted with federal and state programs to
accelerate the transfer of federally-developed technologies to the private
sector and thus contribute to U.S. competitiveness in the world market.  This
new strategy is designed to create government and industry technology
partnerships.

1. Health Science — Dr. Paul Willson
Describes the work performed in chemical compounds, imaging processing,
organic molecules.

2. Materials Science — Dr. Bill Ebihara
Describes capabilities in material processing and testing, adhesives/plastics.

3. Packaging  – Vic Khanna
Design of packaging using latest analytical tools and advanced materials.

4. Environmental Services — Robert Scola
Pollution prevention and control, National Defense Center for Environmental
Excellence, Demilitarization.

5. Test Facilities/ Instrumentation — M. Paduano
Describes ARDEC test facilities which can be provided to commercial facilities.

6. Tech Transfer Tools — J. Greenfield
Describes the arrangements by which ARDEC products and services can be
provided, discuss legal and intellectual property aspects of TT.
